My World On A Page

Welcome and thanks for stopping by! I’ve made a lot of changes to my site recently, but the site is still a work in progress, as cliché as that sounds. Don’t be surprised if the layout or theme has changed again the next time you come back. I’m still working all those details out, experimenting and trying to find layouts and designs that works well for me and you.

Why my own website?

I started my website years ago as a way to learn and practice HTML but over time it became a way for me to show off my content the way I wanted. I would go long periods where I’d almost abandoned the site and then would start working on it again. I started spending a lot of time focusing solely on using Facebook for this type of information, thinking that it was easier to let someone else mange the layout and design while I focused on the content. It turns out that I didn’t like that. I wanted my own site, where I have control over the content and the design. The design may not be great, but it’s mine and it can get better. I can’t really say that about Facebook.

So what’s new?

The site is coming along and thanks to some great themes from Elixir Graphics, it’s looking more and more polished every day. That just leaves me to focus on content, which is the hard part. I’m working on finding a better layout for my photo album page. I’ve decided to let Flickr host the images, but have a nice interface on the album page. I currently use a plug-in called Collage to create that main page, but I’m not thrilled with it. I’m also working on a better layout for the Videos page. That page is one of my favorites, because of the fun content. I think it needs better organization, perhaps some sub-menus to divide up the content so you don’t have to scroll down as much and so that not all the videos start to buffer at one time. That can make the page load slowly.

Want to learn more about me?

You can learn more about who I am and what I like to do at the About Me page. The link is right there at the top of the page. You can also learn a lot about me from reading my blog. You’ll find blogs on a variety of topics, from technology to photography, Sci-Fi, books I’m reading, TV shows I’m watching and stuff going on in my life. While the content on my homepage and about pages doesn’t change very often, the blog content does and it’ll give you an insight into my personality and opinions. The videos page will also give you a sense of what I find funny, interesting or cool. If it’s up there, it means I like it.
This site is optimized for viewing in Safari or Firefox. It looks pretty good on the iPhone and looks great on the iPad! If it doesn’t look right, you’re probably viewing it on a PC with IE. You may want to turn on compatibility mode.
